Adding a Window Seat and Extra Storage

The previous owners closed off a door looking east over the front porch when a sleeping porch was removed from this 1870's farmhouse.  This side of the house faces east and receives the early morning sunlight and it was a shame not to take advantage of it not to mention that it made the upstairs hallway dark and gloomy.
James replaced the door with a window, used the original trim work and salvaged materials to keep the feel of the project in line with the age of the home.

The window seat offers ample storage for blankets and extra pillows and makes a perfect spot to enjoy a book and cup of tea and as you can see, it gets plenty of natural light now!

He used the original hinges off of the existing door and used salvaged wood from another part of the house so everything about this new addition is authentic and those little touches really made the homeowner pleased with the project.

James has always told me that one of the keys to good remodeling is that the new addition to a home not stick out like a sore thumb but look as if it has always been there.... this project definitely did that!
